I stopped by my friend Matt’s house last night and we replaced his front shock absorbers on his Dodge Ram Pickup. The actual procedure is fairly simple but we ran into some trouble due to rust.
Hey thanks Marty. The second one was stuck pretty good. (because we live in the rust belt) The bolts all came out good but the lower mount for the shock was a very tight fit. (Marty pulled the first one out from the shock tower by hand)
Daylight made it easier and I was able to get the other shock installed. (I am now the proud owner of a new 5pc pry bar set)
The difference in handling is night and day. I can now take much tighter u-turns and it dramatically easier to drive on rough surfaces. I wonder what it would ride like if I did the rear. (should be easier)
Many people probably jack the vehicle up and remove the tire to change shocks but it probably is not necessary. (though it may be easier if your shocks are not totally dead like my original shocks were)
Matt
I changed the rear shocks a couple of nights ago. I noticed a huge difference in the ride. (versus the rusty 14 year old original equipment) Thanks again Marty!

How hard was it to swap those as opposed to the front ones?
Matt
It was easier to do the rear shocks. I did have to lower the spare tire which wouldn’t do me much good as a spare. (rusted to the mechanism that lowers it)
