Thinking about snowmobiles…

January 14, 2014

So I keep kicking around the idea of getting a snowmobile. I grew up in a somewhat rural area with easy access to lots of places to go snowmobiling. Once I moved to minneapolis I got rid of my last one and haven’t had another one since then.

Now that I’ve gotten really into mopeds and two stroke engine tuning I thought it’d be fun to take another crack at it. It’d require figuring out how to transport and store it, but like I said it’s just an idea I’m kicking around. I always looked forward to winter as a kid in fact I couldn’t wait, it be nice to have that mindset again instead of dread and drudgery that I do now .

Anywho it’s amazing how much two stroke engines have progressed since my dinky mopeds rolled off the assembly line 35 years ago.

The ski-doo e-tec engines are some of the most technologically advanced 2 strokes I’ve ever seen.

  • Case Induction
  • Liquid Cooled
  • Power Valves
  • Direct Fuel Injection
  • Computer Controlled Oil Delivery

They’re nothing short of amazing check out this video to see what I’m talking about…

Since the fuel is injected when the piston is nearing top dead center and compression is building it requires these massive fuel injectors that hammer the fuel into the cylinder. Since the fuel is injected into the cylinder there’s nothing to deliver the oil to the bottom end so it’s pumped in directly too.

It’s all really amazing stuff.
